Agree on the assessment and the approval point

Start with a written description of the visible damage and the proposed assessment. Ask whether disassembly, measurements or vehicle-specific checks are included, what that stage costs and when the advisor will report findings. An exterior dent does not define the complete repair. I-CAR describes indirect damage that was only visible after a headlamp was removed.

Keep the shop repair reference, insurer claim number and adjuster contact together. Confirm who may approve work and how you want to receive updates. Ask about the plan for parts availability and substitute transportation without treating an initial estimate as a promised completion date.

Understand the paint plan before comparing quotes

Ask which panels will be repaired, replaced, refinished or blended, and why each operation is included. PPG's color-identification procedure checks the vehicle paint code, previous refinishing and color variants, then verifies a blendable match. A paint code starts the process; it does not describe every operation needed for your vehicle.

Request a plain-language explanation of preparation, paint and reassembly. Ask how the chosen repair follows the applicable vehicle and paint-system instructions. Keep appearance questions separate from mechanical or safety-system checks, and request an explanation of any required tests in the written scope.

Review changes and the delivery record

A supplement is an adjustment to an initial collision estimate. Maryland Auto's claim guidance explains that concealed damage may require one and that the repair facility contacts the insurer about the revised estimate. Ask your own insurer how its process works. Request the newly documented findings, revised scope, approval status and any amount you may owe before deciding on additional work.

At collection, compare the completed work with the final invoice. Review the finish with the advisor, request the records of applicable checks and get written care and coverage instructions. Keep the original estimate and approved revisions together so a change in the final total has an explanation.
