Use the report to define the next visit
Ask for the inspection report listing defective equipment and record the original inspection date and odometer reading. Have the inspector explain each failed item and the finding behind it. Separate the repairs needed for the failed items from other maintenance recommendations so each authorization is understandable.
Maryland State Police says you may have the repairs performed by the inspection station or another facility. Give the repairer the report and request an itemized scope addressing the failed equipment. Ask how to transport the vehicle if a defect affects safe operation; the reinspection window does not establish that continued driving is safe.
Track both limits and return to the original station
Maryland State Police guidance says a reinspection within 30 days of the original inspection and after less than 1,000 miles can focus on the initially defective equipment. Newly observed defects also need attention. Exceeding the time or mileage conditions requires a complete new inspection.
Arrange the return at the same station and ask for the original registered inspector when available. Contact the station while repairs are being planned, and confirm the appointment, mileage limit and possible fee. COMAR includes procedures when the original inspector is unavailable, so ask the station how that situation affects your visit instead of assuming you can use any station for a limited reinspection.

Bring the evidence and confirm the outcome
Bring the original report and repair invoices to the return visit. Ask the station to explain any remaining rejection and any additional observed defect. An invoice records repair work; the registered inspection process determines whether the vehicle meets the applicable standards.
A passing inspection is submitted electronically to the MVA. Request the receipt and confirm the result before relying on a verbal update. Maryland State Police distinguishes visually verifiable repairs from reinspections requiring lifting, measurement or testing, which may carry a prorated fee. Confirm the posted fee rather than assuming every return visit is free.
