Notice the warning behavior
Record the exact warning and whether it is steady or flashing. Rough running, power loss or a warning telling you to stop changes the immediate next step. Stop safely and get professional guidance when the vehicle may be unsafe. Do not keep driving to reproduce a severe symptom.
Bring the sequence of events
Tell the advisor when it began, whether the engine was cold or warm, and any recent repair, battery disconnection or fueling event. Save an existing scan report. Do not clear codes just to hide the light; useful diagnostic information and emissions readiness may be lost.
Does a code scan finish the diagnosis?
Ask what the first authorization covers
Ask which tests are included, how the technician will report findings, and when additional testing needs approval. A code description is not proof that the part named in it has failed. Read the complete code-to-diagnosis journal guide for examples and questions.
