1. What is confirmed? 2. What remains uncertain?
Ask the advisor to describe the problem in ordinary language. Does the proposed work address the concern you reported, another observed issue, or maintenance due by time or mileage?
If more testing is needed, ask what it is intended to establish and what that stage costs. A clear explanation can acknowledge uncertainty without pretending that the first possible cause is proven.
3. What does the price include? 4. What if the plan changes?
Ask for parts, labor and other charges to be itemized. Confirm the parts choice, whether the estimate includes related operations and how applicable taxes are shown. Use the estimate calculator to check the arithmetic with the figures you receive.
Ask how you will be contacted if additional work is found. State your preferred contact method and ask for an updated total before expanding the job. Save the version you approved.
What should come before repair authorization?
5. Can I drive it? 6. What warranty applies?
Ask the advisor for a specific recommendation about safe transport. A low price or convenient appointment should not lead you to drive a car with unreliable brakes, severe overheating or another serious concern.
Ask for the warranty terms in writing: covered parts and labor, time or mileage limits, exclusions and how to request help. Do not infer coverage solely from a logo, network name or a generic website promise.
Make a second opinion useful
If you choose another opinion, take the same report, symptoms and estimate so the next shop can compare the actual scope. Ask whether a further diagnostic fee applies.
