Make the windshield usable
Clean the glass inside and out, refill washer fluid, and check whether the blades leave streaks, chatter or skip. Replace worn blades with the correct type and size for your car.
Verify the defroster and lights before you need them. If the windshield is cracked in your field of view or the defroster is not clearing fog, arrange an evaluation rather than simply wiping while driving.
Look at the tires
Use the vehicle placard for cold tire pressure. Inspect tread and visible cuts or bulges while safely parked. The tire sidewall maximum is not the vehicle’s recommended inflation pressure.
Wet traction depends on tire condition and driving conditions. If you notice a pull, vibration or repeated air loss, tell the advisor when it happens. An online photograph cannot determine whether a tire is safe.
What belongs in wet-weather preparation?
Slow the trip down
NHTSA advises extra caution in rain and severe weather. Increase following distance, slow down for conditions and avoid flooded roads; water depth and current can be hard to judge.
If you lose visibility or control, do not try to diagnose the car while moving. Pull into a safe location when possible and arrange assistance if the vehicle is damaged or unsafe.
Make the service visit useful
Describe whether the issue is poor wiping, fogging, tire noise, vibration or another symptom. Ask for the measured tire condition and a clear estimate if repair or replacement is advised.
Save tire size, work performed and replacement details with your vehicle record. If you are unsure of your car’s recommended tire pressure or wiper type, bring the vehicle information when booking.
