M&A CAR CARE GUIDE

Oil changes, explained in plain English.

You do not need to know engines to make a good oil-change decision. Start with the manual, the dashboard reminder and the last service record. The right oil and interval depend on your vehicle.

What oil does for the engine

Oil separates moving parts, helps manage heat and carries contaminants to the filter. As it ages, its additives wear down. A warning light is not a substitute for a maintenance plan; a red oil-pressure warning calls for stopping safely and getting help.

Find your vehicle’s recommendation

The owner’s manual specifies viscosity, performance grade, capacity and service interval. A service reminder may adjust for driving conditions. Tell the advisor your year, make, model, engine and mileage; ask them to show the oil specification on your invoice.

Check the level safely

Park level, turn the engine off and follow your manual for the wait time and dipstick procedure. The dipstick range shows whether the level is low or high; color alone cannot prove the oil is good or bad. If the level keeps dropping or you see a leak, request a diagnosis.

What the quote should include

Confirm oil type, filter, included quarts, additional oil or specialty filter charges, taxes and disposal charges before service. Our advertised $79 synthetic offer has terms on the offers page. If you bring supplies, confirm they meet your engine specification before asking about labor-only service.
