Know which vehicle you have
A conventional hybrid uses gasoline and an electric drive; a plug-in hybrid can also charge from a plug; a battery-electric vehicle has no gasoline engine. Their oil and fluid needs differ, so use the manual for your exact model.
The U.S. Department of Energy notes that all-electric vehicles typically have fewer scheduled powertrain services, while regenerative braking can reduce brake wear. Reduced wear does not remove the need to inspect the brake system.
Keep the everyday safety items
Check tire pressure and condition, wipers, lights and the manufacturer’s maintenance reminders. A heavier battery or different tire specification is a reason to verify the approved tire fit for your vehicle, not to assume any tire will do.
Ask which brake, cabin filter, cooling or other services the manufacturer schedules. Do not accept an engine oil change line for a battery-electric car; a hybrid with a gasoline engine can still require engine oil.
What determines a hybrid or EV maintenance plan?
Respect high-voltage systems
Do not open high-voltage components or handle damaged orange cables. After a collision, flooding or a battery warning, follow the manufacturer’s emergency and towing instructions and use qualified responders.
EVs and hybrids can have towing restrictions, including damage risk if driven wheels remain on the ground. Tell dispatch the exact vehicle model and read the owner’s manual before arranging the tow method.
Ask for a specific estimate
When booking, provide the year, make, model, powertrain and symptom. Ask whether the shop can perform the requested service on that vehicle and what equipment or training it requires.
Keep the completed work and current mileage in your record. A general EV checklist cannot replace manufacturer procedures or certify a high-voltage repair.
