The engine requires a particular viscosity and performance specification. Using the wrong oil can be more harmful than choosing between two arbitrary mileage intervals.

Short trips, long idling, towing, extreme temperatures and stop-and-go use can justify more frequent service than ideal highway driving.

Use the visit to look ahead

An oil service is a useful time to review leaks, fluids, tires, lights and maintenance due soon so repairs can be planned instead of becoming emergencies.
